Energy Usage Optimization

Standard Power has several partners capable of various levels of optimization (energy auditing combined with project implementation). An energy audit is an inspection and analysis of energy flows in a building or system to reduce the amount of input into the system without negatively affecting output. Energy audits can range from a simple walk-through of a facility to identify major problem areas, to a comprehensive analysis investigating the implications of all alternative energy efficiency measures (taking into account financial criteria and sophisticated projection models). In all cases, a detailed scope of work is necessary to spell out what the client objectives are.


Preliminary Audit

The preliminary audit is the simplest form of audit. It involves interviews with site-operating personnel, a review of facility utility bills and other operating data, and a basic walk-through of the facility to become familiar with the operation. The objective is to identify areas of energy waste or inefficiency. Major problem areas will be uncovered. Baseline corrective measures are recommended with straightforward estimates of implementation costs and potential savings.


Lighting Audit

A lighting audit evaluates the current lighting system and identifies methods of reducing long-term operating costs and potential system improvements. Lighting audits involves counts of every lighting fixture in the facility to determine fixture type, lamps per fixture, ballast type, voltage type, and if dimmable (incandescent, florescent, and HID) as well as physical building specifics (by room).


Performance Audit (i.e. General Audit)

The general audit (also known as a complete site energy audit) collects detailed information about the facility’s operations combined with an in-depth evaluation of potential energy conservation measures. Historic usage (interval meter data over a multi-year period) is collected to allow the auditor to evaluate the facility's energy demand and usage profiles. Detailed energy profiles are analyzed for signs of energy waste. Additional reviews of specific energy-consuming systems are performed to supplement utility data. Interviews with operating personnel are conducted to attain an understanding of major systems and to gain insight into short-time energy consumption patterns. The audit will identify energy-conservation measures for the facility within operating parameters. Detailed financial analysis is provided, itemizing implementation cost estimates, site-specific operating cost savings, and investment criteria for recommended project implementation.
